Why give to SEA?

“The work your charity is doing saved mine and my children’s life.” Victim-survivor

One in six women in the UK have experienced economic abuse. The effects can last a lifetime, with some women never free of the abuser’s control. They can be left with large amounts of debt, or without access to money or a home. Many are trapped with abusive partners and experience other forms of abuse. Many feel they have no choice but to take their own lives.

Surviving Economic Abuse (SEA) is the only UK charity dedicated to raising awareness of economic abuse and transforming responses to it.

  • We pioneer new approaches to supporting survivors, such as the Financial Support Line with Money Advice Plus, which offers regulated financial advice specifically for victim-survivors of domestic abuse.
  • We work with financial services, domestic abuse services and other frontline organisations to increase understanding of economic abuse and so that every victim-survivor can access support.
  • We influence national laws and policies to better reflect the needs of victim-survivors, and work with industry to improve practice.

We depend on charitable donations for all areas of our work. Without them, SEA wouldn’t exist.

Where does your money go?

With your support, we can create change for victim-survivors that can be life-changing and sometimes life-saving.

£5
could pay for us to reach more than 500 people on social media with information to help them identify economic abuse early
£50
could pay for a victim-survivor in serious financial difficulty to speak with a specialist on the Financial Support Line
£500
could pay for a specialist debt advisor to receive expert training they can use to support thousands of victim-survivors

For every £1 donated to SEA:

  • 93p is spent on creating change for victim-survivors
  • 7p is spent on raising further funds

Last year, your support helped us:

  • give advice and support to 450 victim-survivors of economic abuse via the Financial Support Line with Money Advice Plus
  • train more than 1,000 professionals to understand and recognise economic abuse
  • influence a change to the law so that abuse that take place after a relationship has ended can be considered as controlling or coercive behaviour.
“SEA is creating and riding the waves of awareness and real change around economic abuse.” Victim-survivor
