Understanding and Responding to Economic Abuse

We are excited to share that SEA’s founder and CEO Dr Nicola Sharp-Jeffs has published a new book, ‘Understanding and Responding to Economic Abuse’. The book explores the many ways abusers control victims through economic resources and highlights the urgent need to involve ‘non-traditional’ stakeholders such as money/debt advice organisations and the financial services sector. Banks and building societies routinely interact with both victims and perpetrators of economic abuse and have an unrivalled ability to reach those experiencing abuse whilst also taking action to close down the loopholes through which abusers continue to control their partner.

With 2022 marking five years since SEA was founded, our pioneering work with the financial sector has seen real improvements in the way economic abuse is understood. We want to take this work to a new level and hope that this new book will help banks and other financial services see the vital role they have to play in supporting customers and preventing abuse.

£1.50 from every sale of the book will be going back to SEA.
